Bruce and his family live on a small ranch in the historical community of Norse, near Clifton, windows offer Bruce a continuous view of the Texas Hill Country. It is a wonderful blessing to be able to make a living for my family, doing what I love in this beautiful place," says Greene. Several years ago, Bruce began making annual trips to join in the spring work on the great, old JA Ranch in the Palo Duro Canyon of north Texas. He says, "I go up there and stay on the chuck wagon with the JA hands and the neighbors that have come to help. We ride a lot of miles in rough country. It can be cold, hot, windy and wet. As a matter of fact, it can be all of these in one day. A fella could get lost in some of the mesquite or cedar thickets. Of course, we work a few cows Texas. The artist's studio is on the edge of the hill out behind the house. From there, large north on our place and help out a neighbor now and then, but the JA trip has been a real inspiration for me each year. I am absolutely sure that this experience has greatly affected my artwork. It seems necessary, to me, in order to depict the contemporary cowboy with accuracy and feeling. My good friend, Red Steagall, calls it 'getting the dust in your nose.' For me, that dust makes the difference." Greene was elected to membership in the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America in 1993 and is currently serving as its President. The artist is represented by galleries in New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. His work is represented in several annual shows and exhibitions including the Cowboy Artists of America Exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Arizona; the Prix de West at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the Masters of American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Glendale, California; and at the Round Up Miniature Show at the Cowboy Artists of America Museum in Kerrville, Texas. With the determination of a pioneer, Cao Yong set forth, heading toward the higher ground of artistic maturity. Of the moment when he painted Santa Monica, the work that marks the turning point of his career, Cao Yong says: To this day, I can still feel the tingle I felt upon pouring my exultation onto this canvas. As I painted nearly 200 figures reveling in a spontaneous street festival on a summer night, I was likewise celebrating in my own heart. The sincere jubilance of Cao Yong work has universal appeal. Collectors and art dealers zealously welcomed, and continue to welcome, Cao Yong new art. The artistic visions of Carl Brenders reflect his respect for nature. His precise and lively paintings capture the extreme realism of the birds, mammals and habitats he depicts. Brenders paints every detail of his wildlife images - feathers, hair, leaves or pine thorns - until, he says, "they get into my skin." Brenders was born near Antwerp, Belgium, and has drawn since childhood. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Antwerp and later at Berchem. He has produced wildlife illustrations for a series of books entitled The Secret Life of Animals. His artwork is regularly exhibited in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's prestigious "Birds in Art" and "Wildlife in Art" shows. The wildlife images of Brenders' art are first created from pencil sketches; from these sketches his mixed media paintings of watercolor and gouache are completed with a technique he has developed during the last 25 years. His paintings, which encompass every intricacy of nature, devote equal attention to the detail of the wildlife subject and its habitat as well as to the mood created by the light. Brenders' art enjoys international acclaim. He is widely collected in North America, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, Holland, Argentina and in his native Belgium. Brenders combines his dreams, his senses, his imagination and his strict attention to anatomical perfection to make his paintings. He says, "Nature is already beautiful, already perfect. That is why I paint the way I do with so much detail and so much realism - I want to capture that perfection." Before Ordering, contact us for current pricing and availability of Brender Art. |
Born in Detroit in 1928, Charles Wysocki enjoyed an active and happy boyhood which seems to be reflected in his work. After studying at the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, he began a career as a commercial artist in Detroit. He soon abandoned it for the more independent life of freelancing. Returning to California, he married and established his home there. Chuck and Elizabeth Wysocki have a great deal in common. They share an art background and the ethic of hard work. They have succeeded in capturing the rare sense of serenity that results from being content with the simple things of life, for which Wysocki gives his wife much of the credit. Vacations spent in New England have enhanced this feeling. Browsing through the historic countryside, collecting old brass and pewter chests and crocks, they envision an earlier, slower paced lifestyle in time with their own thinking and philosophy. Such are the influences that have combined to develop Wysocki's personal style of painting and choice of subject matter. "I consider myself a painter of early American life," he says. "The people in my pictures are country folk, simple in manner and happy in their activities. If some naivete appears in my work, it's because it was planned that way and is undoubtedly a desire to live that way myself." When his legion of loyal fans think of his art, they think of rolling, white cumulus clouds, as well as dark, angry, stormy skies. They think of bright winter snow scenes, and crisp views of autumn. They think of happy families, as well as lonely ladies in waiting--gazing out across the foamy, rocky waters for their seagoing mates. All this and more is the work of Charles Wysocki, one of the truly unique artists in, and of, America today. "I love this country so much," he says. "I spent my childhood on the west side of Detroit in the Polish enclave. In our neighborhood, people still talked about the oppression they had suffered in the Old World. The freedom in America amazed them." That freedom infuses the work of Charles Wysocki, who shared the longing of his family for a better life through the joys and heartaches of his images. His fine art prints and posters show a nation of splendor and aching beauty. There's a sense of freedom, drama, and adventure in everything he does-- from the simplest still life to the most complex landscape. But never does he lose the human content. "I want to explore the whole range of emotions," Charles Wysocki says. "I want drama and light, carefree times or a lonely, heartfelt memory." Artist Danny Hahlbohm (pronounced hal-Bome) was born in Mineola, New York in June of 1949. His work has exhibited in some of the most prestigious galleries in the world. His award-winning work has graced billboards, magazine and CD covers, limited edition plates and puzzles. More than one hundred prints have been reproduced from his original paintings and distribued in countries all over the world. He grew up on the eastern end of Long Island, New York until 1968 when he enlisted in the Armed Forces. Danny Hahlbohm was sent overseas and toward the end of his tour he received a miracle from God that changed his life. This miracle led Danny to accept the Lord and become a Christian. After serving in the Armed Forces and being honorably discharged in 1972, Hahlbohm began painting for galleries and touring the United States. In 1979, Danny released his well-known Footprints in the Sand painted along with the poem written by Mary Stevenson in 1939. The result was world recognition. To date, over 80 different Hahlbohm Christian art prints can be found in homes throughout the world. Danny Hahlbohm says, "It has become clear through the years that my artistic gifts were meant to be used by the Lord for the comfort and growth of those they touch. He touches their hearts with that which He projects from my artistic eyes to see and reproduce. He required more detail and power for the Christian paintings He had inspired me to paint, and they included people. I told Him that was my real weakness, but before long, I was pushed into doing portraits. I realized that the gift of talent I had been given was truly the Lord's hand upon my own." A song has been written about Danny's artwork entitled All in Blue. BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Hahlbohm Art. |

The art of Greg Olsen illuminates the soul and spirit of its subjects and uplifts the hearts and minds of its viewers. Olsen’s diverse interests are deftly demonstrated in oil paintings that range from the inspirational and whimsical to the realistic and historical. His luminous, delicate portraits capture not only the likeness of his subjects, but their spirit as well. His landscapes of scenes from America and the world over reflect the perfect beauty of the mind’s eye. As a child, Olsen often relied on his imagination for entertainment — as an adult, his imagination entertains us with paintings that depict the best and brightest memories of childhood. Born in 1958, Olsen was raised in a farming community in rural Idaho. His parents, artists themselves, recognized and encouraged his early love of drawing. Later, the devoted tutelage of a high school teacher cemented his affinity and enhanced his technical ability. After studying illustration at Utah State University, he was hired as an in-house illustrator in Salt Lake City, working on anything from murals and dioramas to simple paste-up. Two years later, he followed a friend's advice and began painting full time. Sales from his first show only just covered the cost of refreshments and invitations, but yielded the first of many commissions that were to come. His Biblical paintings, represented in religious institutions in more than 20 countries around the world, and his work for the Pentagon and the National Collegiate Athletic Association required intensive research and strict attention to factual detail. While these historical paintings satisfy his desire to render works with a sense of permanence, his whimsical paintings afford him the freedom to transfer his imagination to canvas. When Olsen paints a tree house, he paints it the way the children climbing it imagine it to be — the simple boards and nails of reality become elaborate, majestic castles in the sky. Olsen's paintings are included in many corporate collections, including Mobil Corporation, Turner Broadcasting System, Westin Hotels, World Explorer Cruises and the American Cancer Society, as well as the Pentagon, the U.S. Forest Service and the State of Idaho. His works have been exhibited in prominent art galleries throughout the West and in major one-man shows. Olsen's philosophy on art is quite simple. "I appreciate the beauty of art and the way it makes me feel," he says. "I hope that people are happy and uplifted when they see my work and that the inspirational pieces will bring them peace and comfort. One of art's greatest purposes is to lift us and bring greater joy into our lives. I take a lot of pleasure in painting and hope that pleasure is contagious to those who look at my art." Jean Monti grew up in a family of six children in North Providence, Rhode Island. Her mother provided an early artistic influence, keeping Jean and her older brother entertained with arts, Art was an extension of her identity, and at a very young age, she knew that it would also become her lifes work. Upon graduating in 1987 from The Rhode Island School of Design with a B.F.A., she began a successful freelance career, working at home and creating artwork for advertising and editorial illustration. Montis devotion to her family is an integral part of her personality. After she had children, she turned to illustrating romance novels because the deadlines for these were more flexible. Putting in a full day at the easel, the hours spent in her studio revolved around her childrens needs. Despite the advantages of her work, and with more than 70 covers to her credit, her assigned subject matter was not personally fulfilling to her as an artist. Monti loves to paint, she loves children, and since she has dedicated her career to fine art, children are the subject she loves to paint most. She creates splendid scenes with realism and with sensitivity, beginning with the design. A member of the National Watercolor Society, Monti is equally adept with watercolors and acrylics, but her medium of choice is oils on linen. She uses them to render luminous skin tones with meticulous detail. Her use of light suggests a celestial source, highlighting the contrasting textures of delicate fabrics and gently softening the edges to create a mood of serenity. Many of Monti's paintings are in the homes of private collectors. In all of her paintings, she seeks to evoke an emotional response. Frequently she will consider something she has seen or something she has envisioned as an idea for a painting. But more often, she chooses a subject because the emotion connected with it is something that she has experienced, and she is an artist who trusts her instincts. When everything is clicking, the painting feels like its coming alive. I try to create idealistic settings that are romantic and pure. I have always been driven to create something that touches someone else, in order to make them feel good and to make them feel loved. That has to be the biggest reward. My work is an extension of myself — a legacy to my children and family. My mission is to share my work — to have people see it and to make them feel great. John Weiss was born and reared in Akron, Ohio, the son of a draftsman with whom he credits his disciplined approach to art. As a child, Weiss always had the ability to draw. John attributes his painting specialty to two things: He loves dogs (he is currently "owned" by a yellow lab named Maggie and a yorkie named Mollie), and a painting he did years ago of an English Setter out in a field which got the attention of Dave user. But John's paintings are much more than portraits: They convey the deep and loyal bond between dogs and people. Weiss says, "I paint (scenes) people relate to, perhaps because I can relate to them myself. They're familiar moments; part of everyday life we can understand and enjoy." On a trip to Maine, he saw an exhibit of Andrew Wyeth work, which inspired him to pursue art while attending Kent State University. He studied art at Kent State University and after college Weiss went into the landscape business. With the support of his wife, Tammy, in 1977, Weiss began painting full-time, primarily in oil. Today a resident of Ohio, Weiss uses his art to support worthy causes in the area, and shows his work in a number of galleries nationwide. John has painted some of the most important dogs of our time, having the joy and privilege of meeting and making many four-legged friends worldwide, and his avid and loyal collectors include many prominent families. John was commissioned by Lady Barlow to paint a portrait of a dog that was subsequently presented to Queen Elizabeth. Other notable collectors include as Jane Firestone, and John sketch of her German Shepard, Hatter, is part of the AKC Museum of the Dog in St. Louis permanent collection. Weiss is recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the Cover of the Year award from the National Dog Writers Association, U.S. Art magazines Artist to Watch as well as the top print of the year honors. I paint for the love of dogs, the many emotions they share. Some paintings are deeper emotional metaphors than other, but my hope is that they each capture the joy and encouragement of their faithful subjects. I am truly blessed to be able to paint every day, and am thrilled to share my enjoyment with others through my work.—Weiss. For Kathryn Fincher, painting is not only her profession, but her passion. Portraying children and their fascinating expressions has become her consuming inspiration. Fincher's mother, a portrait artist, continually encouraged her daughter . Fincher commenced her painting career with a primary focus on wildlife and landscapes; however, after she painted her first child's face in an image titled "First Look," the artist had found her niche. As the artist explains, "Children, with their many discoveries and expressions, and their constant developmental changes in the very early years, are a wealth of visual stories." Fincher adds, "I fall in love time after time with the faces of my own children and those of family and friends. "When I discovered that one little shadow or slight change of the angle in a child's mouth could change an entire expression, I was hooked," says Fincher. "I am not interested in painting unrealistic, perfect children sitting up straight with their knees together, but rather that moment when a child is consumed with studying something or on the brink of a new discovery." Fincher's goal is to avoid painting the obvious. It is the expressions on children's faces when they are on the brink of experiencing something new that the artist strives to capture. Even the wonderment of viewing life in different forms, such as insects and fish, can be fascinating. "I love to tell stories, and what better avenue than through the face of a child," says the artist. Upon close observation, you will find inspiration in each of the artist's captivating images. Through Fincher's art, her children will touch you, giving you the opportunity to return to that spirit of youth and innocence each of us so fondly remembers. Kathryn Andrews Fincher resides near Atlanta with her husband and their two children. BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Fincher Art. |
Larry Fanning is a self-taught Western and wildlife artist who was born and raised in Kansas. After working as an illustrator for the Boeing Company, he pursued a career in commercial art and graphic design before moving to California. Once there, he set his art aside while serving as a nondenominational minister for 17 years. Shortly before moving to Colorado in 1986, Fanning resumed his career in art. Energized by the mountains and the changing seasons, his love for the West shines through his vivid paintings. He says, In its richly endowed land, its wildlife, and in the dreams of its people, there pulses an energy that is sacred and life-giving. Collector demand soon outpaced his supply of paintings. Fannings art can now be found in private collections throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and South America. He is an artist who preserves the constantly forming ideas, moods and emotions that later emerge in his sought-after paintings. He always takes a camera and sketch pad with him when he travels. Very often, an artist will see parts of a painting, such as the light on a tree, he explains. You retain it along with a number of other elements. When the catalyst for a painting happens, you then draw upon that well of stored images. Fanning has a natural understanding of anatomy and an instinct for color. Much like an actor, who strives to make a scene come alive for an audience, Fanning endeavors to put himself into the setting he is painting. He tries to experience the crunch of the snow, or the howl of the wind so that the viewer will also feel drawn into the painting and can participate in its story. Fannings appreciation for lifes unending splendor is richly reflected in his art. BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Fanning Art. |
Lena Liu's beautiful birds and tranquil landscapes, and breathtaking floral and musical still lifes are among her collectors' favorites. Lena had her first painting lessons as a child in Taiwan under the guidance of renowned painters Professors Sun Chia-Chin and Huang Chun-Pi. She came to the United States in 1972 to study architecture at the State University of Buffalo, and later did graduate work at the School of Architecture at U.C.L.A. However, her true passion for painting never left her, and in 1977 she began to paint full-time. Today, avid collectors of her work enjoy it across various media, including limited-edition prints, porcelain collector's plates, ornaments, figurines, music boxes, sculptures. Lena has achieved recognition at national shows and exhibits. She was honored by the Collector's Information Bureau (CIB) as Best Plate Artist of the Year and as Collector's Choice Artist of the Year. She was also honored by National Association of Limited Edition Dealers (NALED) as Artist of the Year. She was named the Canadian Artist of the Year at the Canadian Collectible of the Year Awards. She was also an inaugural inductee into the prestigious Bradford Exchange Plate Artist Hall of Fame. Lena and her husband Bill live in Maryland, in the home she designed to accommodate their joint love of art, music, and nature. As often as she has the chance, Lena spends time in her garden where she attains inspiration for many of her paintings. She also loves to watch the birds that live around her home and studio. Although Lena appreciates the loveliness of all birds, she admits to liking chickadees the most, "maybe because they remind me of small children, with their round little bodies and cute expressions." As her collectors know, Lena Liu loves flowers and as you might have guessed, gardening is one of Lena Liu's favorite pastimes. She does have a vegetable garden, but she especially loves flower gardens and has several of them in the backyard of her home in Potomac, Maryland. Among her favorite flowers to grow are bearded irises, roses and peonies. Lena enjoys spending time in her flower gardens and she frequently gets inspiration for her paintings from her backyard gardens. In fact, she can often be found kneeling among the flowers with a sketch pad in hand. She sketches the natural beauty of the uncut flowers at their many different stages of bloom. "I strive to create a sense of romance, poetry and music in my painting. Emotion, love and nature will never change, and I try to capture that in my art. I let what touches my heart pass through my fingers. I hope you and I can keep sharing this love of nature's beauty, and continue to delight in the splendor of the world that surrounds us." --Lena Liu BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Liu Art. |
Martin Grelle lives with his wife, Terri, and their children near the small, Central Texas town of Clifton, just a few miles from where he was born. Rich in beauty and history, the area has become a mecca for artists, which is one reason why the artist has spent his whole life there. Many of his closest friends are artists, and they gather to see each others work, exchange ideas, and just shoot the breeze. Grelle treasures the camaraderie among these artist friends and the rare opportunity it affords him. Grelles work reaches far beyond his Texas home conveying the spirit, drama, beauty and vastness of the American West. Whether painting a Native American in a dramatic setting or a working cowboy on the range, he captures the essence of the West in his historically-accurate, picturesque, peaceful, yet compelling, images. He enjoys the Cowboy Artists of Americas trail ride each year, and manages to spend some time occasionally working cattle with local friends. He is proud of the Native American part of his ancestry and studies diligently to portray their culture accurately and sensitively. Grelle is able to take even the most mundane daily task and elevate it to a new level in each painting. This is particularly true in Peaceful Morn as the pair pause to allow the horse to drink. Grelle captures them in the most intimate and dramatic setting, giving it all an overwhelming sense of peace. Sometimes he adds a note of humor as in Offering to the River Spirit where the Asparoke are indeed giving an offering, but rather than offering a piece of their own finery, they are offering the River Spirit something captured from an enemy tribe – something special, but not integral to their own existence. Grelle began painting at an early age. With the guidance of Western artists James Boren and Melvin Warren, both of whom settled in the Clifton area while he was in high school, Grelle was able to become a full-time artist in his early 20s. Since that time, he has studied, traveled widely, and sought subject matter throughout the American West. Working primarily in oils on canvas, Grelle marries his figures with the landscape in a painterly style rich in vibrant color. Grelle has been profiled in many publications, including Southwest Art, American Cowboy, Art of the West, Western Horseman, The Equine Image, Art Talk, Persimmon Hill, and InformArt. His work has also been featured on the covers of several magazines and on various historical novels published by the University of Nebraska Press. Elected to the Cowboy Artists of America in 1995, Grelle is one of the youngest active members and won the People’s Choice Award at the CAA exhibition in October 2002. Grelle’s painting, Teller of Tales, received the top award at the 2002 Prix de West Invitational held at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and was chosen for inclusion in the museum’s permanent collection. The artist is represented by Overland Gallery of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he has enjoyed one-man shows each March since 1989. Morgan Weistling (pronouced WHY-st-ling) and his artist wife and their daughter make their home in California. When he turned his considerable talents to fine gallery art, he found himself unable to keep up with collector demand for his originals. His amazingly realistic paintings and religious subjects make the viewer feel like an eyewitness to the unfolding scene due, in part, to his experience in the film industry. In all of his vibrant work, there is clarity, focus and purpose because Weistling thinks like a skilled cinematographer, envisioning himself as part of the scene that he is painting. He then visualizes Morgan Weistling He became well-known in the film industry for his illustrations whose amazing celebrity likenesses promoted the movies and merchandise for Anastasia, The Santa Clause, Last Action Hero, The Lost World and countless action thrillers. The list of movie stars whose features Weistling has flawlessly captured reads like a stroll down the star-studded sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard. His clients have included Universal/Amblin Entertainment, Disney, MGMhow it would look on the movie screen. With his masterful use of oils, he makes the transition from his imagination to the canvas, bringing the scene to life with spectacular lighting to fully engage the viewerÂ’s imagination and emotions. Having embarked upon so successful a career at such a young age, there is one artist to whom Weistling remains forever indebted. WeistlingÂ’s parents met in art school, where his father was studying under the G.I. Bill. When his parents married, his father gave up his own dreams of a career in art and started a gardening business to support his family. But every night, father and son shared a little ritual that began when Morgan Weistling was just nineteen months old. The two would draw together, a special time to which they both looked forward as the father fostered in his son a love for art. In the years that followed, he also gave his son his collection of art books. Today, Morgan WeistlingÂ’s career is the fulfillment of a fatherÂ’s dreams. Recent honors and awards include the Trustees Purchase Award at The Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles, CA, the Prix de West Purchase Award at The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, OK, and the Patron's Choice Award at The Autry Museum of Western Heritage. Nancy Glazier is one of the most renowned wildlife artists in America. Glazier has painted everything from buffalo to polar bears, but her favorite subjects are still horses, wolves, foxes and coyotes. Glazier immerses herself in all the elements of her art and strives to learn more about painting and the wildlife that are her subjects. She sometimes makes her own paints and also extremely thin glazes so she can build up the texture of her paintings layer by minute layer. Glazier says that she is never happier than when she is in the territory of the animals that mesmerize and awe her. On her research trips, she photographs the area and the animals, all the while memorizing the feel, smell, and sounds, as well as the light, colors, and textures of the scene. Upon returning home to paint, she reaches into the recesses of her sense memory, so that she can instill the painting with all the aspects of the natural scene. Glazier wants each of her paintings to provide the viewer with more than the look of the animal and its home. She wants the viewer to experience the scene as she did. Nancy Glazier always knew she was meant to be an artist. "Painting" is the breath of life, Glazier explains. It's in my bones. As a little girl Nancy's favorite subjects were horses and dogs, not only because of their beauty but because of their relationship to man. Nancy Glazier is one of the most renowned wildlife artists in America. Glazier has painted everything from buffalo to polar bears, but her favorite subjects are still horses, wolves, foxes and coyotes. It's not only the animals' physical splendor that attracts Glazier, it is also their spirit. Nancy currently lives in rural Montana, where she shares territory with many of the wild creatures she paints. BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Glazier art. |
Nita Engle, one of America's foremost watercolor artists, has painted landscapes from Alaska to her home on the shores of Lake Superior in northern Michigan. Engle exclusively paints outdoor scenes and paints nothing she has not personally experienced. She finds endless fascination and challenge in the infinite complexity and mystery of nature. Nita attended Northern Michigan and Roosevelt Universities and the Art Institute of Chicago. Engle was also a professionally trained commercial artist and illustrator, working nine years as art director for a national advertising firm. Engle feels that she trained herself, however, to paint in watercolors — simply by doing, experimenting, and often by breaking the rules. Nita's years of experimentation have led her to mixing her own distinctive blend of colors and to finding unusual but useful tools, such as water filled spray bottles. Engle is an award-winning, long-time member of the American Watercolor Society. She spends much of her year on the road, conducting workshops, teaching, and gathering subject matter. She exhibits extensively and is represented in collections in the United States and in Great Britain. Perhaps millions of people have seen her artwork on the covers of such well known magazines as Readers Digest. Engle's atmospheric watercolors — her illusions of reality — emerge from her inventive experimentation with her medium. Peggy Abrams grew up in a farming community in Michigan and from the time she could hold a pencil she began sketching. With love as money, Peggy's family provided her with any means possible to nurture her artistic talents. "My mother would save old wallpaper and Shredded Wheat boxes for me to draw on." Peggy added that her family didn't always have indoor plumbing, so she painted the outhouse making it "the best looking outhouse you've ever seen." As a young girl, Peggy was inspired by old-fashioned dolls, lace and large hats; elements of the stylish Victorian era which always interested Peggy. Today, Peggy is famous for her Victorian Santas, flower arrangements and accessories in addition to her gardening images and an extensive line of Christmas images. Peggy and her husband Joel, who reside in Michigan, enjoy the company of their three children and two grandchildren. BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Abrams Art. |

Ron Bayens is known for his angelic children and pets and portriats. Originally a native of suburban Toronto (Ontario, Canada) began drawing and painting at an early age. In 1988, he completed his degree at the Ontario College of Art, but found their modern approach to painting unsatisfying. So, Mr. Bayens studied the techniques of the Old Masters under noted portraitist Michael John Angel. Through years of hard work and dedication to perfecting his craft, he developed a distinctive realistic style which has been the subject of a feature article in Art Impressions magazine. Among Mr. Bayens' long list of credits are numerous art awards, including those from The Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse, in 1987, and The Salvation Army, in 1988. During his apprenticeship, Mr. Bayens realized that children were his favourite subject and he has distinguished himself in the art world for his warm and insightful portrayal of them. "I like to strain out the wonderful moments," says the artist, "I like a sense of innocence and peace... with a healthy dose of optimism. Norman Rockwell always had that effect on me... If one of my paintings brings a smile to a person's face or stirs a fond memory, then I feel I have created something worthwhile." Ron and his family now live in Auburn, AL where his studio is located upstairs at Greystone Mansion - built in 1894. Even though Ron still believes strongly in the traditions of his trade, technology has become an important tool for both preparatory and creative work - he uses both a custom built PC, scanner and a digital camera. Rest assured that his portraiture continues to be the oil on canvas he has always loved! BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of Bayens Art. |
Sandra Kuck describes herself as a romantic realist. Her nostalgic settings and angelic children evoke memories of childhood. Sandra creates a romantic and peaceful atmosphere, capturing the beauty and simplicity of days gone by. Sandra was born in Ohio, and moved to California when she was ten. . As a child, she always loved to doodle and sketch. Her first oil painting was a portrait of Napolean! During her education at UCLA and The Art Student's League in New York, Sandra realized her love for painting children, deviating from her professors' emphasis on modern art. After a three month romance, Sandra married New York City detective John Kuck, who encouraged Sandra to pursue her dream of becoming a successful artist. They quickly started a family and had two active children, John Jr. and Evelyn. When the children were young John would entertain them on weekends so Sandra could have an opportunity to develop her artistic talent. Once the children were in school, Sandra was able to devote more time to her art, while John sold her works to local galleries. Their confidence in Sandra's special talent would soon be realized by the collecting public. Although Sandra enjoys acclaim, she much prefers to be at home in her studio. A modest person, Sandra is easily embarassed by praise from her faithful collectors. She finds her inspiration from many different sources, including the special relationship between mother and child, the beauty of the country garden, or the fine furnishings and clothing of the Victorian era. Sandra's pursuit of perfection, and exacting standards for detail only allow her to paint eight to ten pieces per year, since only one piece can be completed in a four to six week period. Her ability to create flawless scenes of serenity, joy, and elegance has made her one of the most beloved artits in North America. Sandra Kucks nostalgic settings and angelic children evoke memories and emotions of our childhood, and of our children. Dedication and perseverance have taken Sandra to the heights of success. In addition to her prestigious standing in the collectible community, Sandra also produces fine art prints, and was recently commissioned by the National Archives in Washington, D.C. for a series commemorating American women. During her education at UCLA and The Art Student League in New York, Sandra realized her love for painting children. In 1983, she was honored with the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers Plate of the Year, Print of the Year, and Artist of the Year awards. Since 1983, Sandra has been honored each year with awards from NALED, including an unprecedented six-time honor as Artist of the Year. Few artists can rival the standards of excellence achieved by Master Artist Terry Redlin over the past 25 years. He is truly one of the country's most widely collected painters of wildlife and Americana... For eight consecutive years, 1991 through 1998, Redlin has been named America's Most Popular Artist in annual gallery surveys conducted by U.S.ART magazine. His induction into U.S.ART's Hall of Fame in 1992 followed the magazine's poll of 900 galleries nationwide which, that year, placed five of Redlin's limited editions in the top 11 in popularity. Over the life of the poll, 30 prints have been included in that list. His use of earthy colors, blazing sunrises and sunsets and nostalgic themes are often cited as the reasons for his immense popularity. Redlin's interest in out-of-doors themes can be traced to his childhood in Watertown, South Dakota. A motorcycle accident ended his dream of becoming a forest ranger, and he opted to pursue a career in the graphic arts. He earned a degree from the St. Paul School of Associated Arts and spent 25 years working in commercial art as a layout artist, graphic designer, illustrator and art director. In his leisure time, he researched wildlife subjects and settings. In 1977, at the age of 40, Redlin burst onto the wildlife scene when his painting "Winter Snows" appeared on the cover of The Farmer magazine. By 1979, demand for his work had become so great that he left is art directing career to concentrate on painting wildlife. Since then, Redlin's meteoric rise has been unparalleled in the field of contemporary wildlife art. In 1981 and 1984, he won the Minnesota Duck Stamp competition, and in 1982, the Minnesota Trout Stamp contest. He also placed second that year in the Federal Duck Stamp Competition. He has been honored as Artist of the Year for Ducks Unlimited (National and Minnesota), and as Conservationist of the Year-Magnum Donor by the Minnesota Waterfowl Association for his gifts of entire print collections. The National Association of Limited Edition dealers has three times presented him with the "Lithograph of the Year" award for excellence in the medium. In 1985, Redlin added an entirely new artistic direction, limited edition collector plates. To date, he has released more than 30 editions, many of which are now available only on the secondary market. In addition to fine art and collector plates, Redlin's images also appear in a variety of collectibles and decorative accessories. Cabins, homes and church sculptures adopted from some of his most popular art prints join music and keepsake boxes, steins and ornaments in collectors' displays. In 1987, Redlin began exploring his interest in Americana subjects and nostalgic scenes of yesteryear, painting several images for his American Memories and Country Doctor Collections. Since then, his annual Christmas prints have attracted thousands of collectors from coast to coast. In 1992, he completed his most ambitious work to date, painting each line in the first stanza of "America the Beautiful". All eight, which depict American life from the settling of the west to the present day, were released as limited edition prints over a three-year period, ending in January, 1995. The series has been showcased in art and consumer magazines nationwide, and it has been acclaimed by thousands of collectors. "Terry Redlin Paints America the Beautiful", a video presentation produced by Hadley House, earned a coveted Telly Award in the 1993 national competition. Redlin's immense popularity can also be measured in the success of his book, "Opening Windows to the Wild, The Art of Terry Redlin." In its sixth printing, the book details his paintings, pencil sketches and biography. Always the perfectionist, he personally supervised the printing and production of this important project. A critical as well as a commercial success, the book was a Certificate of merit winner at the prestigious Printing Industries of America competition in 1988. His second book, "Terry Redlin, Master of Memories," was released in 1997 and was recently voted Best Art Book by those galleries polled for the U.S.ART survey. Terry Redlin derives the most satisfaction from his conservation work. Over the 17 year period from 1981 to 1997, his donations to Ducks Unlimited raised more than $28 million, setting an all-time record in art sales for wetland conservation projects. By his own estimate, he has donated several million dollars of art to other nonprofit conservation organizations. Redlin's most compelling project is the construction of the museum to house his original art in Watertown, South Dakota, where he now resides. The Redlin Art Center, which includes a regional tourism office, Domed Theater, and state-of-the-art Amphitheater, opened in the summer of 1997 and has seen more than 1 million visitors from all over the world. Terry Redlin donated the $10 million museum to the State of South Dakota in appreciation for an art scholarship he received after graduating from high school in Watertown. He was honored in 1998 by the City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota by having an elementary school named in his honor. Terry Redlin Elementary School opened in the Fall of 1998. Thomas Kinkade is known as the painter of light. Best known for painting luminous inspirational scenes of gardens, estates, great outdoors, hearth and home, lighthouses, cityscapes, and seascapes. His work "Prince of Peace", a drawing of Christ, has such depth. The Artist Thomas Kinkade is America's most collected living artist, and the adventure that he's taken to get there is a fascinating and compelling story. While growing up in the small town of Placerville, California, the young Thomas Kinkade embraced a series of simple life-affirming ideals that later would shape his future and his art. As a devout Christian, Thom uses his artistic gift as a way to communicate and spread the life-affirming values he embraced during his formative years. As he matured into adulthood, Kinkade began to explore the world around him with enthusiasm and fervor. He spent one summer on a sketching tour with a college friend, producing a best-selling instructional book, The Artist's Guide to Sketching. The popularity of the book landed the two fledgling artists a job at Ralph Bakshi Studios, creating background art for the animated feature film Fire and Ice. Soon, Thom started exploring light and imaginative worlds with abandon. It was during this period that he acquired his moniker as the The Painter of Light. After completing his work on the Bakshi film, Kinkade began his career as a painter, selling his originals in galleries throughout California. In 1982, he married his childhood sweetheart, Nanette, and two years later they began to publish his paintings together. Devoted to his wife and children, Thomas strives to lead a balanced life committed to family values. Thom creatively fills his paintings with "love notes" by hiding the letter "N" in all his paintings as tribute to his wife Nanette. His four daughters also find their own messages of love from their father as their names and images often appear in many of his paintings. Artist of Biblical themes, lakescapes and Jesus. Tom duBois, a gifted fine artist and critically acclaimed illustrator. duBois lives in Chicago and is a graduate of the city's framed American Academy of Art. Artist Tom duBois (pronounced doo-BWAH) has the gift of seeing through a child's eyes thus transforming the realistic into the fantastic. The results are highly imaginative works of art unique to his creative genius. A true Renaissance man, duBois has merged his love of art, poetry, and music into an interesting and diverse career. He is an illustrator as well as a fine artist, poet, singer, and storyteller. Tom often appears at gallery signings with his acoustic guitar and sings to the amazement and delight of his collectors. He is fond of a quote by Picasso, "Every child is an artist. The problem is remaining a child once you grow up." Tom's Noah's Ark Series was extremely popular and his collectors eagerly anticipate each new release from his Biblical art series. The Disney Discovery Series, now completely sold out from the publisher and available only on the secondary market, was completed in 1996. Featured in each of the five paintings is a scene from a Disney movie. Tom duBois' passion for life and enthusiasm for the world of imagination breathe life into every piece he creates. "Like every kid, Disney was a big part of my life growing up. I loved all the characters, and the sheer fantasy and creativity of the animated films was an inspiration. The complex compositions, with their hidden images, are as challenging to render as they are to discover. The whole idea of producing these works just thrills me."-- Tom duBois BEFORE ORDERING, contact us for current pricing and availability of duBois art |
Artist features Cats, Dogs and Humorous Prints. After studying painting, illustrating and, secretly, double bass playing at Southampton College of Art, Goffe decided to move to London to earn a living, which he supported by playing bass in London Jazz bands. After marrying my wife Jill, a fellow art student from Southampton, we moved back to Hampshire with our two boys Tim and Tobin. It was here that I started up both an art gallery and a judo club. I am very interested in martial arts and have been studying judo since I was fourteen. Although I was freelancing in illustration and painting, I became much more interested in painting since running the gallery. It was around this time when I met John Stobart, a marine painter, who was emigrating to America to set up a gallery. A year later I joined him to study painting and run his gallery for him in Boston, and for the next four years I painted and exhibited along the East Coast galleries of the United States. Upon returning to England I continued with my painting and one of my paintings ‘Small Cat In Large Dog’s Bed’ was voted ‘best painting’ at an exhibition, having several buyers after it. Due to its popularity I made a limited edition print of the painting, which I showed to Washington Green. Upon seeing the print they asked me to join their portfolio of artists and I have been working with them ever since. IDEAS & INSPIRATIONS Most of my ideas and inspirations are gained from watching my two cats Mungo and Mingus. They are sisters and do not get on very well with each other. This makes observing them totally absorbing. The way they try and out maneuver each other taking the others’ favorite sleeping place, or taking command of the landing upstairs, daring anyone to invade. Mingus sleeps a lot on the back of the couch in the window looking at the traffic and the cat next door. She gets very excited when she comes around, jumping up at the window, following her every move. She seems to be posing with every movement she makes. The sunlight streams though this window and creates a halo around her that she doesn’t deserve. They were great when they were kittens. As with all kittens they were up to as much mischief as possible, getting into impossible places, having to be rescued every five minutes and then doing it all over again. It was hard work trying to keep up with drawing them. It was a period of great inspiration and I still have sketchbooks full of ideas for paintings of this time.At the end of the day, when I would be relaxing on the couch looking at my days work, one of the cats would come and sit on my lap like a critic and look at the paintings with me. They never, however, show that they like or dislike them - they just look. FROM PALETTE TO PICTURE A painting will start with either a sketch or something I have just seen, like a cat sitting in a doorway or looking at me through the kitchen window. I start with a rough sketch on layout paper, correcting as I go. This may mean sticking paper over a much-corrected area and re-drawing until it seems right. Sometimes if the corrections get too thick I may have to copy the rough and continue working on that, building up the drawing until it seems finished. This will be transferred to watercolor paper. I use Saunders Waterford 300gms or if I am feeling extravagant Aquarelle Arches rough 640gms 100% cotton. These are then taped to a drawing board. I draw in pencil and begin coloring in watercolor; thinly at first, gradually getting thicker until the right tone is reached. I may add some pastel if I have got too heavy or even gouache, or, if all has not gone to plan, acrylic. Some paintings I have to abandon altogether because they have gone out of control and have to be thrown away. There is an unhealthily large pile of these! At the end of the day I take the board with the painting on downstairs from the studio, and put it on an easel I have in the sitting room. Then, the cats, my wife and I sit back and criticize it. By the next day I will have decided if it needs any alteration and will continue with this until I feel, either I, or the painting is finished. Artist of Humorous Prints of Dogs, Golfscapes and Christmas Scenes. Will Bullas was born in Ohio and raised in the Southwest. He has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. Accordingly, he enrolled at Arizona State University and was majoring in fine arts and minoring in dramatic arts when he was drafted. In Vietnam, Bullas' skills stood him in good stead; his first professional pieces were pencil portraits of fellow soldiers, which were sent to loved ones back home. After returning from military duty he enrolled in the Brooks Institute of Fine Art in Santa Barbara, California, where he studied with renowned instructor Ray Strong. "He was not only a master of landscape painting," Bullas said, "but amaster of color theory. And he could tell a great story, too." Bullas graduated with a degree in oil painting. With the encouragement of his wife, Claudia, he then quit his printing press job - reproducing the work of other artists - and concentrated on his own art. That was the beginning of a year long voyage across the Midwest and Southwest, taking Will and Claudia to dozens of malls and parking lots where Will sold his work to many appreciative collectors. The couple settled in Carmel, California, where Will's exclusive relationship with galleries resulted in a decade of prosperity and a growing group of dedicated, enthusiastic collectors. Bullas' work has not escaped the notice of critics and peers. He won the Strathmore Award at the 1981 Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition, the William G. Morrison Award for the Adirondacks Exhibition of American Watercolors, and the First Place Award for the 1990 Signature Membership Exhibition of the National Watercolor Society.
